How To Lower Blood Sugar With This Drink

Few years ago, my mother got diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus (Type 2). Prior to that, I noticed that she’s been having tremendous weight loss without dieting and exercising so I thought she needs to be brought to an endocrinologist. Working in Makati Medical Center during that time had its perks so to cut the long story short, after all the diagnostic tests that Dr. Gia Wassmer asked for, my mom’s diabetes is so poorly controlled that her fasting blood sugar level is 400 mg/dl (22.22 mmol/l) which worried me a lot.

Dr. Wassmer said my mom needs to be placed on insulin but that teared up my mom’s eyes because she hates needles so I bargained with the doctor. I asked if she could place my mom on oral medications to control her condition for 3 months and I will manage her sugar. She knows I’m a nurse therefore she agreed and she gave me the 3 months I asked for but if I’m not able to lower my mom’s blood sugar, she would have to use insulin from then on.

Mom already knows which food to eat and not to eat so I did not have a hard time on that. She was too determined to prevent herself from having insulin injections everyday. On my part, I have done a couple of reading on home remedies that would be effective in lowering blood sugar. I have seen a lot but I had to choose the one that works best and that is the most efficient to prepare and I ended up with a drink that is simple to make yet proven to have numerous therapeutic effects, not just lowering blood sugar.

Turmeric Cinnamon Milk

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 1 cup milk (use whichever milk you prefer)
  • Pinch of black pepper

Warm the milk then mix the rest of the ingredients in. Stir wildly to make sure it’s dissolved properly. Now, the super stars of this concoction would be the turmeric and cinnamon, which both have therapeutic properties. The explanation for it is too complex and long to be placed on this post but to simply give an idea, cinnamon has insulin-regulating properties whilst turmeric has minimal blood sugar controlling properties but is said to have anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and anti-bacterial effects.

Okay so I may not be able to post all the scientific research to back the effect of this drink up but I can vouch for it. My mom drank this religiously every night and complied to her medicines as well as appropriate diet for her and when it was time for her follow up check up, her blood tests showed that her fasting blood sugar level has gone down to 120 mg/dl (6.67 mmol/l) and that is a feat. The doctor was impressed and decided to have her remain on oral medications instead of insulin.

Making the drink could get tedious for others so maybe the turmeric capsule and cinnamon capsule would work better for you. But I personally suggest to choose the drink over the capsules because drinking this warm beverage also has soothing and calming effects.
